How Story Mode works

Story Mode is the starting progression path in Anime Expeditions. Players deploy units along enemy routes, earn battle currency during each stage, upgrade placed units, and protect the exit through the final wave.

The official game description confirms wave defense, bosses, leveling, and evolution. Launch-day guides also consistently identify Story as a source of account progress, unit experience, Gems, colored Evolution Sprites, and first-clear rewards.

First-hour Story priorities

  1. Complete Beginner Path objectives before spending most of your Gems.
  2. Redeem current codes.
  3. Bring one inexpensive opening unit, one area-damage unit, one boss damage dealer, and an economy or support unit.
  4. Clear new acts and star objectives before repeatedly farming an old stage.
  5. Stop pushing when clears become unreliable; level or evolve the core team first.
ObjectiveWhy it matters
First clearUnlocks progression and one-time rewards
Star objectivesAdds Gems and account resources
Unit experienceLevels the active roster
Evolution SpritesSupports evolved forms
Harder stagesTests whether the team has enough damage and control

Team-building rule

Do not fill every slot with slow, expensive damage units. A balanced Story team needs an affordable opener, area coverage for grouped waves, focused damage for bosses, and enough economy or support to keep upgrades moving.

When a stage becomes a wall, compare the failed wave with the roster:

  • Early leak: add a cheaper opener or earlier area damage.
  • Grouped enemies: improve area coverage or control.
  • Boss timeout: add focused damage, a debuff, or stronger evolution.
  • Cash shortage: reduce overplacement and upgrade the main carry first.
